Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear Internet users,
The institution of the National Bureau of Civil Status (BUNEC) by Law No. 2011/011 of 6 May 2011 to amend and supplement certain provisions of Ordinance No. 81-02 of 29 June 1981 on the organization of the state civil and various provisions relating to the status of natural persons is a strong signal to the people of Cameroon, represented by His Excellency Paul BIYA, President of the Republic and the Government of Cameroon as a whole, wished to highlight the decisive and growing role of civil registration and the production of civil status statistics in the achievement by Cameroon of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDOs) in general, and the Emergence of our country by 2035 in particular.
Indeed, recognized as "a fundamental necessity for the sovereignty of nations" (Yamoussoukro Declaration, February 2015), the modernization of civil registration systems and the production of civil status statistics is a powerful instrument for identifying individuals and the civil status facts concerning them, a reference tool for the exercise of citizenship, as well as an appropriate tool for the development of public policies, their implementation and their evolution. It is, in short, an activity that makes it possible to build a fairer and more prosperous society.
BUNEC, the technical arm of the Government in the field of civil status, has therefore rightly been entrusted with the mission of supervising, monitoring, regulating and evaluating the national civil status system.
Thus, the establishment of BUNEC's web service responds to a twofold requirement, namely to link this public administrative establishment to new information and communication technologies on the one hand, and to improve communication and visibility of BUNEC vis-à-vis institutional partners, financial partners, stakeholders in the civil status of Cameroon and Cameroonian citizens as a whole on the other hand.
This site will undoubtedly give everyone the opportunity to have a better knowledge of the legal framework governing civil status in Cameroon, the context of the creation of BUNEC, the details of its missions, its organization, the activities carried out as well as the perspectives envisaged for a homogeneous and complete public service of civil status.
I wish everyone a very good navigation.
The Director General
Alexandre Marie YOMO
